This fantastic panel discussion hosted by Savills brought together industry leaders to discuss the similarities and differences on D&I in the public and private property sectors and how organisations can share best practice to progress fairer and more inclusive workplaces, built environments and societies.
The discussion was introduced by Richard Rees - Managing Director of Savills UK - and Chaired by Lara Newman - Chief Executive of LocatED.
The keynote speakers were:
- Janet Young - Government Head of Property Profession, Office of Government Property
- Harry Swales - Chief Investment Officer, Homes England
- Chanelle Gray - Head of Diversity and Inclusion, Savills
- Emma Cariaga - Joint Head of Canada Water and Head of Residential, British Land
The panel discussed their own organisations' current D&I priorities, the role of housing in creating opportunities and thriving communities, what the public sector is doing in terms of inclusion and recruitment and retention, what the industry needs to do to attract diverse talent, how the public and private sectors can get better at learning from each other and much, much more.
They also answered questions from the audience on topics including rewarding inclusive behaviours, whether social background should be a protected characteristic, D&I targets, attracting over-50s to the industry and progressing cultures so underrepresented groups feel a sense of belonging in property and real estate.
